This warm and cozy breakfast combines two heart-smart ingredients: whole grain oats and apples. Flavor it up with cinnamon and just the right amount of brown sugar, and you’ve got a homey, satisfying bowl of morning goodness.

- ½ cup old-fashioned oats*
- 1 apple, chopped
- 2 teaspoons brown sugar (may substitute granulated sugar, honey, maple syrup, or sugar substitute)
- 1½ tablespoons fat-free milk
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
In a small bowl, combine the oats with 1 cup water and microwave for 2 minutes.
Add ½ the chopped apple, brown sugar, and milk and stir thoroughly. Top oatmeal with remaining ½ of the chopped apple and sprinkle with cinnamon. Microwave oatmeal for 1 additional minute and serve.
Tip: If you enjoy thinner oatmeal, add extra skim milk.
