Daily Immunity Elixir
During cold + flu season, I go into full-on “prevention mode”… and this Daily Immunity Elixir is one of my non-negotiables. I make a big batch, stash it in the fridge (or freezer), and sip a mug whenever germs are flying—because I love the idea of giving my body an extra, concentrated boost of nutrients that research links to strong immune function.

It’s not about an overnight “immunity miracle” (sorry, that doesn’t exist). It’s about smart, steady support—one cozy mug at a time. This simple one-pot blend of vegetables, broth, and warming spices delivers vitamin C, beta carotene, antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, and plant compounds that help your immune system do its job… plus it just feels sooo good going down. Comfort with purpose!

And here’s my “germ-fighting” tip: have it ready so you can reach for it the second you feel run down, or the moment everyone around you starts sniffling. If you already love my Creamy Butternut Squash Soup and Non-Dairy Cream of Mushroom Soup, think of this as their sippable cousin—with extra immune oomph!
Bonus storage hack: Pour the cooled elixir into an ice cube tray, freeze, then pop the cubes into a freezer bag or container. When you want a quick, beneficial sip, drop a couple cubes into a mug and warm it in the microwave. Instant cozy “mini-mug” of goodness—no extra work.

This recipe makes about 4½ cups, so you’ll have plenty. Sip it in a mug like an elixir or pour it into a bowl and enjoy it like soup (seconds welcome!). The goal here is to keep it easy…. keep it warm…and keep showing up for yourself, especially when germs are rampant!

Daily Immunity Elixir
Ingredients
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms, ~8-ounce package
- 2 cups baby carrots
- 1 red bell pepper, roughly cut into small pieces
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon ginger powder
- ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder + pinch ground black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon oregano
- Pumpkin seeds, for garnish
Instructions
- Add all ingredients to a large pot and boil for 20 minutes (or until veggies are fork-tender). Purée in a blender or use an immersion blender in the pot. Season with salt to taste. Serve immediately or stash in fridge and warm a mug in the microwave as needed.
- Alternatively, you can prep the recipe ahead of time, then freeze individual portions in an ice cube tray. Whenever you need a soothing sip, simply add a couple of cubes to a mug and warm as needed. Garnish with pumpkin seeds if desired.

This was very easy, inexpensive, and tasty! The only differences I made were using home made chicken stock, fresh onions and garlic, and more seasonings. But I do have a question. In the Instagram video, it looks like you only served less than half a mugful. Is there any reason to consume such small servings?
Hi Alice, great question! You can have as much as you want of this elixir — there’s no limit on portion! We’re so glad to hear that it turned out delicious. Thanks for following along with Joy on Instagram, we’re grateful to have you as a part of our community!

The best “medicine” for anytime, even if you feel fine.
We agree, Jill! This recipe is a great food to boost your body’s natural immunity…and it tastes great! Enjoy! — Eliza (Team Joy)
Hi Joy! This sounds awesome – any reason not to substitute bone broth? This would add protein right?
Thanks!!!
Hi Ann Marie! Yes, you can do an even swap for 4 cups chicken broth for 4 cups bone broth (chicken or another source). This will add slightly more protein, depending on the type of bone broth you use (they vary in protein content). The only reason Joy calls for regular broth is that it’s more accessible for folks, but you can sub in any type of broth you like, including the bone broth (which has added benefits)! — Eliza (Team Joy)
Made a half batch… love it!
Yay!! That makes me so happy to hear, Carolyn. It’s an easy one to scale down or up….depending upon how much you want to stash in the fridge or freezer. Wishing you a germ-free season!
