These Seared Tuna Steaks are dressed to impressed, packed with protein, and bursting with umami deliciousness.
Ingredients
- 1 pound sushi-grade tuna steak
- ½ cup soy sauce
- 3 tablespoons sesame oil
- ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon canola or grapeseed oil
- Mesclun greens
- Optional lime juice, scallions
Instructions
- Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup and salt. Reserve half and set aside in fridge for serving. Add the remainder to a bag or bowl along with the fish and fully coat. Set in the refrigerator and let marinate for about one hour.
- Warm 1 tablespoon canola oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, allowing the pan to become very hot before adding the fish (pre-heat for about 3 minutes). Add tuna and sear each side for 2 minutes for medium-rare (this is for ~1 ½ inches thick), or an additional 1 to 2 minutes per side for medium.
- Serve tuna over mesclun greens and top with scallions. Drizzle on reserved marinade (you can add fresh lime juice and/or sriracha to taste) or serve on the side.
