The simplest marinade that doubles as a salad dressing? Yes, please! This recipe comes together likety-split (it just needs a little time marinading) and looks oh-so-fancy. These Seared Tuna Steaks are dressed to impressed, packed with protein, and bursting with umami deliciousness.
- Prep time
- Total Time
- • 1 pound sushi-grade tuna steak
- • ½ cup soy sauce
- • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
- • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
- • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- • 1 tablespoon canola or grapeseed oil
- • Mesclun greens
- • Optional lime juice, scallions
Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup and salt. Reserve half and set aside in fridge for serving. Add the remainder to a bag or bowl along with the fish and fully coat. Set in the refrigerator and let marinate for about one hour.
Warm 1 tablespoon canola oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, allowing the pan to become very hot before adding the fish (pre-heat for about 3 minutes). Add tuna and sear each side for 2 minutes for medium-rare (this is for ~1 ½ inches thick), or an additional 1 to 2 minutes per side for medium.
Serve tuna over mesclun greens and top with scallions. Drizzle on reserved marinade (you can add fresh lime juice and/or sriracha to taste) or serve on the side.
