If there’s one thing I’ve learned after years of holiday hosting (and host-gifting!), it’s this: the best appetizers look impressive, taste crave-worthy, and come together without breaking a sweat. Enter this Hummus Wreath — a joyful, colorful centerpiece that feels celebratory yet totally effortless!

Finished hummus wreath garnished with parsley, grape tomatoes, and crumbled feta cheese, styled for a holiday appetizer.

As a nutritionist, I’m always nudging people toward plant-forward starters that actually excite the room. Hummus checks all the boxes: it delivers fiber, plant protein, and healthy fats, and it’s endlessly customizable. This wreath version turns a humble tub of hummus (or your fave homemade recipe!) into a festive showstopper that disappears fast.

If you want to make your own hummus, I highly recommend giving one of these a try:

It’s a breeze to put together: simply choose your favorite hummus and spread it out in a circle on a platter, sprinkle on a generous amount of chopped herbs (anything goes, including parsley, cilantro, chives, thyme, rosemary, scallions and more), strategically place ornamental cherry tomatoes around the top, and add crumbly feta cheese all over. Then, surround your masterpiece with delicious dippers and dig in. It makes a great holiday app—whether you’re hosting or presenting it as a gift for a host!

More than a Christmas appetizer

This idea actually started as my go-to move for any kind of celebration — not just the holidays. For birthdays, I shape the hummus into the age the guest of honor is turning. On New Year’s, I spread it into the year we’re ringing in. I’ve even done hearts for Valentine’s Day and lean into red and pink produce “ornaments” like chopped beets, red bell pepper, radishes, and purple cabbage. It’s my favorite reminder that healthy food doesn’t have to be serious or stiff — it can be playful, personal, and part of the party. Every time, people light up, grab a dipper, and gather around. That’s the magic!
