Brain-Boosting Smoothie (Mocha-Berry Flavor!)
When you’re looking to support your noggin, this mocha-berry-flavored smoothie checks every box. It blends three nutrient-rich superstars known for supporting cognition— blueberries, cocoa powder, and coffee — into one delicious beverage.

As a nutritionist who’s spent decades studying food-and-brain science, I’m always looking for easy ways to slip more “smart foods” into busy mornings… and this smoothie does it beautifully. And if you love a good blender moment, be sure to try my Longevity Smoothie, 3-Ingredient Protein Smoothie, Strawberry-Shortcake Smoothie, Snickers Smoothie Bowl, and Piña Colada Smoothie—they’re all crowd-pleasers and each offers its own health perks.

Why this brain-booster shines
- Blueberry brilliance: Antioxidants in blueberries are known for supporting memory and focus.
- Mocha magic: Coffee and cocoa add both flavor and cognitive benefits.
- Chia seeds for staying power: Just a tablespoon bolsters the texture, adds fiber (this smoothie offers 7 grams!), and plant-based omega-3s!
- Make it kid-friendly: Use decaf coffee or swap the coffee for milk.

And here’s a fun twist: stash leftovers in the fridge. The chia seeds “gel,” turning this into a chilled, pudding-like “Smart Smoothie Bowl.” Add berries or a dollop of yogurt on top, and treat your brain to a spoonable breakfast or snack!

I love their recipe BUT I do not like coffee at all. Will you please let me know what I can substitute for the coffee in this recipe? Thank you!
Hi Dee, you can make this Smart Smoothie without coffee. Just swap in 1/2 cup of any type of milk you prefer (dairy, almond, oat, soy…). It’ll still be creamy, delicious, and brain-boosting!
