The Healthiest Chocolate Milkshake
Toss four simple ingredients into your blender and enjoy this splurge-worthy sip in minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 cup almond milk, or any milk of choice
- 1 large ripe banana, peeled and frozen
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup ice, ~5 ice cubes
Equipment
- 1 Blender
Instructions
- Toss all ingredients into a blender and puree until thick, smooth and frothy. (Do not over-mix or it will become too thin). For a darker chocolatey taste, add an additional tablespoon of cocoa powder.
Notes
To increase the protein in your milkshake:
• You can replace the cocoa powder with 2 to 4 tablespoons of chocolate-flavored protein powder, depending on how much protein you’d like to add. • You can also create a vanilla-banana milkshake by swapping the cocoa powder for 2 to 4 tablespoons of vanilla-flavored protein powder. Dietary considerations:
• If you’re following a gluten-free diet, be sure to carefully read the packaging for each ingredient. While these foods are inherently gluten-free, gluten can sometimes be added during processing for a variety of reasons, including for flavor and consistency. • Similarly, if you’re dairy-free, check the ingredient list carefully for any hidden milk products.

We loved it. We wanted ours a little sweeter so we added about three tablespoons of sugar. It was thick and delicious.

I am so making this! If I wanted to add vanilla protein powder to it would I change anything re ingredients? Thanks for sharing this 🙂
Hi Karen! A few things you can do with protein powder:
1. If you want a vanilla-banana milkshake, you can omit the cocoa powder and use 2 to 4 tablespoons of vanilla-flavored protein powder, depending on how much protein you’d like to add.
2. If you want to still keep a subtle chocolatey flavor while increasing your protein intake, you can keep the cocoa powder the same and add 2 tablespoons of your vanilla-flavored protein powder.
3. You can keep a full chocolatey flavor by swapping the cocoa powder for 2 to 4 Tbsp of a chocolate-flavored protein powder.
Hope this helps and let me know what you think! Hoping you love it
