When it comes to game day snacks, it’s all about creating a spread that’s both satisfying and fun. That’s where this Football Hummus Board comes in—a festive, wholesome centerpiece that’s sure to impress your crowd and probably inspire giggles!
Picture this: a creamy, savory hummus-shaped-football, surrounded by a vibrant, lush “field” of fresh green veggies like cucumbers, snap peas, broccoli florets and green beans.

Why you’ll love this recipe:

Trust me your fans will be cheering for more—no flags on this play! It’s a winning dish that even made its way onto TODAY.com!

As a dietitian and foodie, “fun + healthy” is often my game plan. This really holds true for this creation. In fact, I first built this board for a last-minute Sunday football gathering, thinking it’d be a fun way to balance out the usual game day fare (someone bought wings, and another person bought donuts – eeks, lol). To my surprise and delight, it was a total touchdown! Even the die-hard wing eaters huddled around the veggies, scooping hummus like it was the winning play. That’s the beauty of a board like this—when you make healthy options fun and eye-catching, everyone dives right in.

For extra flair, I love mixing up the hummus options. Here are some of my favorites to inspire your board, but of course, you can always go with store-bought for convenience:
- Lentil Hummus: A protein-rich twist using hearty lentils for added texture and nutrition.
- Edamame Hummus: A mean, green spread that packs protein, fiber and plant-based omega-3 fats.
- Beet Hummus: Vibrant pink, slightly sweet, and earthy—this one adds a pop of color and is filled with antioxidants.

These snack boards have become a staple in my entertaining repertoire (I love to entertain!) because they’re easy to whip up, perfect for feeding a crowd, and the presentation is always a showstopper. If it’s not a football event, I usually go for my Mediterranean Hummus Board, filled with creamy hummus, red onion, olives, and scallions, paired with crunchy vegetables and whole-grain crackers for dipping—fresh, colorful, and always a hit.
But come fall, I love to switch things up with my Pumpkin Peanut Butter Board, featuring a cozy, seasonal spread surrounded by crisp apples, banana slices, pretzels, and graham crackers. No matter the occasion, these boards are simple to assemble, fun to share, and guaranteed to score big with any crowd. Also, the boards are easy to clean after everyone is done eating – truly!

Football Hummus Board
Ingredients
- Hummus, amount based on platter size (likely at least 2 cups)
- Fresh chives
- Paprika, sweet or smoked
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Green vegetables, for the "field" (cucumber, broccoli, celery, green beans, sugar snap peas, etc.)
Instructions
- Spoon the desired amount of hummus onto the board. Using a spatula, shape the hummus into an oval football-like form.
- Cut fresh chives: one long piece for the center seam and eight shorter pieces to create the cross-stitches. Gently press the chives onto the hummus to resemble football laces.
- Sprinkle a dash of paprika over the hummus and drizzle extra virgin olive oil lightly over the top.
- Surround the football-shaped hummus with fresh green vegetables, aka the field.
