Cheeseburger-Stuffed Sweet Potatoes
If you’re craving the ultimate comfort food with a nutritious twist, this creation will likely hit the spot. It’s everything you love about a juicy, savory cheeseburger, but with a healthy and hearty upgrade.

Picture this: perfectly roasted sweet potatoes, their natural caramelized sweetness balancing out a flavorful, cheesy meat filling. It’s the perfect marriage of indulgence and nourishment, bringing a smile to your face and goodness to your plate.
Here’s why the dietitian in me loves this recipe:
- Sweet potatoes are rich in fiber, beta carotene and potassium—boosting heart health, supporting glowing skin, and keeping your energy levels steady.
- By swapping traditional ground beef for lean ground turkey, you’re cutting down on saturated fat while still getting a protein-packed meal that satisfies every burger-loving craving.
- And about that ooey-gooey melted cheddar on top with the creamy special sauce drizzled over it—OMG good!

This creation is perfect for family dinners, game nights, or meal prepping for the week. Plus, it’s super customizable with easy ingredient swaps and fun toppings (see the note section below).
It’ll take your spuds to the next level!

When it comes to reimagining the iconic flavors of a classic cheeseburger, I’m no newbie. In fact, I love giving this beloved favorite a nutritious twist—and dare I say, making it even more delicious in the process. (Of course, you’ll be the judge!)
One of the Bauer family’s go-to party hits? My Cheeseburger Meatballs! I love skewering them on toothpicks with all the classic fixings—crisp lettuce, zesty red onion, juicy tomatoes, and crunchy pickle chips—for a fun, bite-sized appetizer that’s always a crowd-pleaser.
Then there’s my Cheeseburger Quesadillas, where two comfort food favorites collide. Think of it as a cheeseburger-meets-quesadilla mashup, packed with all the savory goodness you crave, neatly folded for easy school or work lunches.
And let’s not forget my Bacon Cheeseburger Nachos and Cheeseburger Carrot Fries —basically deconstructed cheeseburgers piled high on crispy nacho chips or tucked into baked carrot fries for a fun, flavorful twist.

Yes, I’m cheeseburger obsessed, haha… and trust me, these recipes are the ultimate way to enjoy everything you love about cheeseburgers—with a little extra flair (and a healthier spin) that I’m hoping you’ll want to make again and again.

Cheeseburger-Stuffed Sweet Potatoes
Ingredients
- 4 large sweet potatoes, or white potatoes*
- 1 pound ground turkey, 90 – 94% lean
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Special Sauce:
- ¼ cup ketchup
- ¼ cup light mayo, or plain Greek yogurt**
Optional Toppings:
- Pickle chips
- Diced onions
- Chopped tomatoes
- Avocado slices
- Minced herbs, like parsley or chives
- Crumbled turkey bacon
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F. Scrub the sweet potatoes clean and poke each with a fork or knife a few times on all sides. Rub them lightly with olive oil, and sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Place them directly on the oven rack, with a baking sheet on the rack below to catch any drippings. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until fork-tender. (Cooking time may vary depending on the size of your potatoes, so start checking at the 45-minute mark.)
- Cook the filling: While the potatoes are roasting, heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground turkey, breaking it up into small crumbles. Once it’s more than halfway cooked, stir in the soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Continue cooking until the turkey is browned and fully cooked.
- Scoop and mix: Once the potatoes are cool enough to handle, slice them in half lengthwise. Carefully scoop out the insides, leaving a thin layer of potato to keep the skins sturdy and intact. Add the scooped-out sweet potato to the skillet with the cooked turkey. Stir in 1.5 cups of shredded cheddar until everything is well combined. Mix and mash until you have a thick and stuffing-like filling.
- Stuff and bake: Spoon about ¼ cup of the filling into each potato “boat.” It should be a generous mound on top of each half. Sprinkle the remaining cheddar cheese over the stuffed potatoes. Increase the oven temperature to 425°F and bake on a parchemnt-lined baking sheet (optional for easy clean-up as it will prevent sticking) an additional 5-10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Make the special sauce: In a small bowl, mix the ketchup and light mayo (or Greek yogurt) until smooth and creamy.
- Garnish and serve: Top each stuffed potato with pickle chips and drizzle with the special sauce. Add your favorite toppings like diced onions, tomatoes, avocado slices, or fresh herbs for extra flair.
Notes
• Protein Swap: Feel free to substitute ground turkey with lean ground beef or plant-based crumbles for a vegetarian option.
• Cheese Options: Mix things up with different cheeses—pepper jack for a spicy kick, mozzarella for mild creaminess, or even gouda for a smoky depth.
• Special Sauce: The mayo provides a classic creamy flavor, while the Greek yogurt adds a tangy finish. You can test out both (mayo and yogurt) by mixing a teaspoon of each with ketchup and deciding which one you prefer. Variations:
• Bacon Twist: Add crumbled turkey bacon to the filling or sprinkle it on top for an irresistible smoky flavor.
• Tex-Mex Style: Season your meat with taco seasoning and stir in salsa, black beans, and corn for a bold, southwestern flair.
• Veggie Boost: Sneak in extra nutrients by adding finely chopped spinach, bell peppers, or mushrooms to the filling.

A great recipe; so easy to veganize! I did reduce the amount of cheese, as vegan cheese is not the healthiest ingredient on the planet.
