This recipe makes 4 servings
Ingredients:
  • • 1 pound sushi-grade tuna steak
  • • ½ cup soy sauce
  • • 3 tablespoons sesame oil
  • • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
  • • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • • 1 tablespoon canola or grapeseed oil
  • • Mesclun greens
  • • Optional lime juice, scallions
Preparation:

Mix soy sauce, sesame oil, maple syrup and salt. Reserve half and set aside in fridge for serving. Add the remainder to a bag or bowl along with the fish and fully coat. Set in the refrigerator and let marinate for about one hour.

Warm 1 tablespoon canola oil in a skillet over medium-high heat, allowing the pan to become very hot before adding the fish (pre-heat for about 3 minutes). Add tuna and sear each side for 2 minutes for medium-rare (this is for ~1 ½ inches thick), or an additional 1 to 2 minutes per side for medium.

Serve tuna over mesclun greens and top with scallions. Drizzle on reserved marinade (you can add fresh lime juice and/or sriracha to taste) or serve on the side.
