Protect yourself from cold and flu bugs (or help fight symptoms if you already have a pesky cold) with these refreshing and hydrating ice pops, made from grapefruit, guava and carrots. Guava is loaded with vitamin C, well known for its role in immunity. Carrots are a beta-carotene standout; beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A in the body, where it’s used as an antioxidant that can help boost the immune system. And pink grapefruit offers a two-for-one benefit, delivering both vitamin C and beta-carotene. Oh and did I mention how delicious they are? They are!

For easier prep, try this all juice version: Simply combine 1 cup pink grapefruit juice, ½ cup orange juice, 1 cup guava juice, 1 cup carrot juice, ½ teaspoon ground ginger, and ½ teaspoon lime juice in a food processor. Pour the mixture into molds and freeze. Each pop is just 45 calories.

  • Total Time
This recipe makes ~8 pops
Ingredients:
  • • 1 grapefruit (pink when available for added sweetness), peel and pith removed*
  • • 1 orange, peel and pith removed*
  • • 1 cup guava juice
  • • 1 cup carrot juice
  • • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • • 1 tablespoon honey
Preparation:

*When prepping the grapefruit and orange, discard any obvious pits, but there’s no need to remove all of them.

Combine all the ingredients in a food processor or high-powered blender until completely pureed. Pour the mixture into a set of standard ice pop molds, using about cup mixture per pop. Freeze until the pops are firm and solid, at least three hours.

An alternative method if you don’t have ice pop molds: Pour the mixture into small paper cups and wrap each top tightly with a piece of aluminum foil.

Carefully poke a wooden stick through the foil and into the cup to serve as a handle, making sure each one is centered and straight. Place in the freezer.
